Based on the post-apocalyptic world of the popular The Walking Dead franchise, The Walking Dead Attraction debuted earlier this year as a replacement to Universal’s House of Horrors. While the daytime experience is purposely tame and restrained based on Horror Nights standards, The Walking Dead Attraction promised a darker, more intense experience during Universal’s annual Halloween event. With all the rightful hype surrounding this year’s outstanding roster, can The Walking Dead Attraction compete? Review In a word, no. To begin this review on a positive note, let’s examine The Walking Dead Attraction’s strengths. The attraction, for one, is housed in…

Last Monday, Inside Universal alongside a few other outlets were invited to take a tour of two of this year’s Halloween Horror Nights mazes: American Horror Story and Krampus. While John Murdy led the tour for American Horror Story, Universal graciously also allowed us to get a sneak peek inside Krampus to give you a preview of what to expect on September 16 when Halloween Horror Nights officially debuts to the public. Since we’ve already covered the conceptual development of Krampus in the past at Scare Los Angeles, here’s a pictorial daytime look at one of this year’s most anticipated…
“This is the best lineup we’ve ever had” While it may be easy to dismiss this statement as hyperbole (after all, no one’s going to tout their newest creation as their second or third best effort), I think it may actually be fair to hold this year’s roster as Universal’s most spectacular lineup to date. It’s the year of the blockbuster. Leatherface. Freddy Kreuger. Jason Voorhees. Michael Myers. Hollywood’s titans of terror, in one place at the Southland’s premiere Hollywood event. While all of these prolific characters hold a special place in Halloween Horror Nights canon, none of these iconic…
Last Thursday, Inside Universal was invited to Knott’s Berry Farm for a special look at their 2016 itinerary for their annual Knott’s Scary Farm Halloween haunt. Now, longtime readers are probably aware of our strict focus on Universal Studios Hollywood, and while that obsessive focus will still continue, we thought we’d share a unique look at Knott’s Scary Farm from the perspective of a Universal-centric site. For all the buzz and constant chatter surrounding Halloween Horror Nights’ repeated use of high-profile intellectual properties, Knott’s Scary Farm can be seen as a healthy counterbalance. In the place of recreating familiar scenes…

Cartooniversal – one of the oldest structures still remaining on the Upper Lot – will close in the fall, Inside Universal has learned. With a selection of merchandise from some of the world’s most popular cartoon franchises, Cartooniversal has anchored that portion of the Upper Lot since the 1980s as The Emporium gift shop. In recent years, Universal has completely revitalized its entrance plaza, demolishing Victoria Station (which included Universal’s House of Horrors, Hollywood Photoland and the Blues Brothers) and opening up Universal Boulevard, which includes an expanded Universal Studios Store, Starbucks and The Walking Dead Attraction.
