After 18 years, Shrek 4D officially closed its doors for the final time on Sunday, January 9th, 2022.
The final send-off was a bit delayed as the ride has some technical issues right before the park closed at 7. Luckily, Universal TMs knew there was a big crowd of Shrek fans that wanted to say their last goodbyes and were able to get off 2 more shows despite it being after park hours. Guests of the last show were able to keep the Ogrevision glasses as a memento.
Universal has not provided any details or information as to what will replace Shrek 4D, but it’s clear we’re getting something with the Minions. As of Monday morning, both the attraction and Shrek’s Ye Olde Souvenir Shoppe are now blocked off by construction walls that feature Minions decorations, which is a pretty obvious hint.
Universal Orlando’s Social Media has also tweeted several teasers featuring bananas, which is the Minions’ favorite food.
