Minion Café has officially opened to the public during Universal’s brand-new “Taste of Universal” event. Sporting a vibrant, retro-style brick exterior with cute murals based on the beloved characters and locations from the source films painted all around, the restaurant brings a new element of life to the Super Silly Fun Land area of the park.
An elaborate neon sign beckons guests to the building, where they will find a number of family-friendly food options including a classic grilled cheese, grilled cheese with meatballs, loaded tots, chicken tenders, loaded chicken nachos, chicken bacon ranch mac n cheese, chicken Caesar salad, and a hazelnut banana pudding served in a cup that looks like one of Gru’s Minions on top. In addition to these main menu options served during Taste of Universal, guests can also choose from a number of sides or even enjoy a richly frosted unicorn cupcake.
We used two punches of our tasting card to try out the loaded chicken nachos and chicken bacon ranch mac n cheese during our visit; both of which we enjoyed.
Since the former Gru’s Lab Café had long mostly disappeared from the park’s menu options once it was transitioned to seasonal operation, we were especially delighted to see this location be renewed with plenty of energy on its opening day. When we return to the park for a second dose of Taste of Universal in the future, we will be sure to let you know what else we choose to try.
Overall, Minion Café makes a delightful addition to the theme park, and we hope that it will continue to impress once Universal Studios Hollywood officially opens for daily operations.
