Universal will be making a major announcement this Thursday, August 1st at 10 am at the Orange County Convention Center. While it is officially unconfirmed, it is believed the announcement is in regards to a new theme park that will be built on the large plot of land that Universal acquired in recent years.
With 570 acres, Site B is roughly the same size of their current Resort property; and is expected to have enough room for 1-2 theme parks, more hotels, and a possible entertainment complex similar to CityWalk.
Rumors have been circulating as to what properties will be featured in a future park, with most pointing to DreamWorks and Nintendo as the obvious choices.
Last year during an earnings call, NBCUniversal’s CEO Steve Burke was asked about future plans of expansion, stating “In terms of a new gate in Florida, we are looking at it. We filed, basically, a name registration.”
Burke continues, “another gate in Florida would have the advantage of turning Florida from a two or three-day destination to potentially a weeklong destination; We have a lot of great I.P.’s. We love the theme park business, it’s one of our best, most-consistent businesses, and we think we have a very long runway,”.
