Globe Theatre at Universal Studios Hollywood to be demolished for Secret Life of Pets attraction

For the sake of clarity, this article discusses rumors and possible changes to the park. This is not a confirmation.

The Globe Theatre in the Upper Lot of Universal Studios Hollywood is set to be demolished later this year, Inside Universal has learned.

No time-frame has been given other than the building it is set for demolition.

The theater originally opened in 1999, and has been used for corporate and other events.

The demolition is said to make way for an attraction based on “Secret of Life of Pets”, which is now slated to be built on the Upper Lot.

We first reported back in December 2015 that we expected the attraction to replace Soundstage 28. Eventually, rumored plans had the attraction set to be built on the former area occupied by the demolished Soundstage 22-25.

This new location would place the attraction right next to Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, which is also an Illumination Entertainment film – which would create an “Illumination-based area” in the park.

A Secret Life of Pets attraction has been rumored for some time, and has been somewhat-confirmed by Steve Burke, NBCUniversal’s Chief Executive Officer, during an investor conference with analysts last Summer:

“WE ARE DOING — WE HAVE STARTED A ‘PETS’ ATTRACTION EVEN BEFORE THE FILM COMES OUT, WHICH IF THE FILM DOESN’T DO AS WELL AS I THINK, IT WILL BE PAINFUL,” HE SAID. “BUT I THINK IT WILL DO VERY WELL.”

Please stay tuned to Inside Universal for more on this and other stories emerging from Universal Studios Hollywood.
