On May 23, Universal CityWalk found its wings by having famed pen and ink artist Kelsey Montague unveil her latest interactive murals.
It’s only fitting that one of the world’s most famous interactive artist leaves her mark at one of the most popular tourist destinations. Guests will be able to pose in front of the murals at either location. The angel wings are located next to Cinnabon; the headphone mural is located directly across from the newly-renovated Universal Cinema.
The beautifully-crafted artwork will now be seen by millions of guest per year as they enter Universal CityWalk and will give guests an opportunity to pose and create memories that can be shared with family and friends.
In 2014, the artist’s fame skyrocketed when pop star Taylor Swift posed in front of her angel wing mural in New York. Since then, Montague’s talents have taken her all around the world, bringing inspiration to each location where her murals are showcased.
By 2015, Montague, along with her sister, created the “What Lifts You” campaign, hoping to to influence people “to use social media in a positive way.” Her creation at Universal CityWalk is a prime example of what the campaign is all about. Montague knew the mural had to offer something for both tourists and locals. The wings showcase the key elements of what Los Angeles has to offer – inspiration, creativity and dreams; as well as reference the city’s namesake, “The City of Angels”.
This addition is part of the continuing effort by Universal to redevelop their shopping and dining district. Over the last couple of years Universal Studios Hollywood has brought in high profile eateries such as Margaritaville, Dongpo Kitchen, Blaze Pizza and the newly opened Voodoo Doughnut. Kelsey Montague’s artistic addition adds the perfect compliment to the thriving district.
Once you’ve taken your photo with the new mural, be sure to post it on social media using #whatliftsyou and #CityWalkLA, and share what lifts you.
