Today, Universal Orlando offered a first-look at some of the dishes guests will be able to order at Volcano Bay, Universal’s new water park, when it opens on May 25.
With a menu inspired by the islands, and offering a wide-variety that should satisfy a broad-range of taste-bud preferences; Universal will have 4 locations on-site where guests can either sit and relax or grab and go:
Kohola Reef Restaurant & Social Club
The main restaurant – it will be located at the base of the Krakatau volcano. The menu includes entrees such as Hawaiian Ribs (Slow-smoked Glazed Ribs. Served with Boniato Mash and Sweet Plantains), Coconut Curry Chicken (Braised Chicken in a Green Coconut Curry Sauce with White Rice, Coconut, and Cilantro. Served with Sweet Plantains), Mango BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich (Topped with Caramelized Pineapple and Mango Slaw on a Toasted King’s Hawaiian Roll) and the Belly Burger (Szechuan-glazed Pork Belly and Caramelized Onions Topped with Fresh Cucumber Basil Slaw, Lettuce, and Tomato. Served with Fries). For the full menu, click here.
Whakawaiwa Eats
This location will offer pizzas, such as your standard cheese pizza to Island BBQ Chicken Pizza; as well as fresh salads. Universal describes the location as “sitting along a sparkling river”, so it may be located near the Kopiko Wai Winding River. For the full menu, click here.
Bambu
From the description on Universal’s website, this restaurant will be a “cool, shaded hideaway made of elegant stalks of bamboo” located in the Rainforest Village of the park. The menu features the same burgers and offerings found at the Kohala Reef Restaurant, but not as extensive. For the menu, click here.
The Feasting Frog
Offering a variety of tacos, like the Carne Asada Taco (Two Grilled Skirt Steak Tacos, Guacamole, Cilantro, and Diced Onion. Served with Plantain Chips and Salsa) and a Poke Poke Bowl (Ahi Tuna Tossed in Soy Honey Viniagrette. Served with Plantain Chips), this locale will offer patio seating and the structure will be shaped like a tropical frog. For the menu, click here.
For those looking for information on bars and drinks, Universal has yet to release specifics; but did reveal the names and descriptions of the 2 bars that will be featured at the water park:
Kunuku Boat Bar
Refreshing frozen drinks, specialty cocktails, fountain sodas and draft beers are just some of the thirst-quenchers on offer at this permanently beached outrigger canoe. Flying the sails of a Chinese junk rig, this landlocked bar is named for the mythical fish that guided the Waturi islanders to Volcano Bay.
Dancing Dragons Boat Bar
Relax in the shade of this cool canteen shaped like an ancient outrigger canoe. With the colorfully repainted sails of a Chinese junk ship, it’s a delightful place to unwind with tropical cocktails and frozen drinks while digging your toes into the sand.
Many of these dishes are available as part of Volcano Bay’s Universal Dining Plan option. Prices, including tickets to the water park itself, have yet to be announced.
