NBCUniversal has purchased additional parcels of property on Blair Drive and Charleston Way, Inside Universal has learned.
These streets – which surround the southeastern perimeter of Universal City directly above the War of the Worlds crash site – are Universal’s closest residential neighbors. These purchases, which are not new for the company, signal Comcast’s ongoing commitment to redevelop the studio and theme park by purchasing strategic parcels of property surrounding Universal City. While Universal is expanding their reach, the company will not be expanding into the surrounding neighborhood on Blair Drive and Charleston Way due to existing Los Angeles County zoning laws, which only allow for residential developments. Instead, the company will be using these homes as a buffer between the property and the surrounding community as part of a larger mitigation plan aimed at minimalizing the property’s impact on the neighborhood, according to a person knowledgeable about the company’s programs.
USI-New Bren Holdco LLC, a subsidiary of NBCUniversal, is the current owner of select properties on Blair Drive and Charleston Way. Universal had previously purchased select parcels of property on Blair Drive, according to an article by the Los Angeles Times in the late 1990s.
