Yesterday, Universal Studios Hollywood officially opened The Walking Dead Attraction to the public. Though the opening of Universal’s new year-round maze was held with little fanfare, crowds of guests – most donning shirts and memorabilia centered around The Walking Dead television show – still waited early in line to be among the first attendees to experience Universal’s latest addition.
Though the park was scheduled to open at 8:00 AM (with Early Entry scheduled for 7:00 AM), The Walking Dead Attraction began its first official operating day with a 9:00 AM opening. Fans and guests were allowed to queue in front of the attraction at 8:10 AM, shortly after official park opening. As 9:00 AM approached, wait times for Universal’s new walk-through maze skyrocketed to nearly 75 minutes as the attraction’s first guests were let into the maze. The Walking Dead Attraction then garnered a near-constant 90-minute wait for over several hours before leveling down to 30-45 minutes as the afternoon progressed.
With the park scheduled to close at 10:00 PM for July 4 weekend, wait times for the new walk-through dropped to 15 minutes at around 8:00 PM. Overall, guests appeared to enjoy Universal’s latest addition with a few upset children scattered about despite the ominous warnings displayed in front of the attraction’s facade.
Now that The Walking Dead Attraction has officially opened, we’ll have our full review of the year-round maze the coming days. For now, please stay tuned to Inside Universal for more on this and other stories originating from Universal Studios Hollywood.
