After almost 40 years, Universal Orlando officially announced that Wet ‘n Wild Orlando will be permanently closing on December 31, 2016.
The announcement was expected as just last month, Universal announced plans for Volcano Bay – a state-of-the-art new water park – will be opening in 2017.
Wet ‘n Wild Orlando orignally opened in 1977 and is recognized as “America’s first water park”. Wet ‘n Wild has been the birthplace of numerous innovations that are now considered a common part of the water park experience.
No information was given as to if Universal Orlando has any plans with the Wet ‘n Wild site after it closes.
