March 28, 2015 – Smashburger will be replacing Original Tommy’s in CityWalk, Inside Universal has learned. This follows the closure of Original Tommy’s earlier this month.

In a Facebook post on March 18, Original Tommy’s announced they would be closing its doors after 13 years in its CityWalk location. They stated that according to new management, Original Tommy’s no longer worked with the future plans for CityWalk. Since its closing just three days ago, signs have already gone up announcing the arrival of a new burger joint, Smashburger.

This change comes alongside a slew of changes to CityWalk’s offerings, including the closure of GameStop, Salvatory Shoes and Jon Lovitz Comedy Club alongside the relocation of Things From Another World and the expansion of the Universal Studio Store.

Smashburger first opened its doors in 2007 with the goal of becoming an “every occasion burger restaurant that people can call their own.”

Compared to Original Tommy’s, Smashburger has a larger menu, offering a variety of different burgers as well as chicken sandwiches and fresh salads. Whether you like to play it safe with the Classic Smash or be a little daring with the Spicy Jalapeno Baja burger, your taste buds will not be disappointed. For those with a sweet tooth, be sure to try one of their hand-spun Haagen Dazs shakes. It is unclear when Smashburger is set to open. We will keep you updated as we learn more about this development.
