February 1, 2015 – In preparation for NFL Super Bowl XLIX, Universal released a new advertisement for the up-coming Fast & Furious: Supercharged animation on the Studio Tour.
Featuring Rita Ora, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel alongside two theme park guests, the advertisement depicts a drag race through the streets of a large metropolis, with scenes of carnage and explosions filling the 30 second spot. The advertisement promises an experiences that’s “more than a movie,” with Rodriquez, Johnson and Diesel guiding guests through city streets.
Like advertisements for King Kong 360, Fast & Furious’ spot features guests holding on to a handle bar, suggesting a motion simulator in the same vain as Transformers: The Ride – 3D. However, unlike King Kong, Universal has opted to emphasize the ride aspect of Fast & Furious, promising a new type of thrill-ride experience on the Studio Tour.
As Universal notes in their official press release, the animation will fuse “sophisticated hyper-realistic special effects with a state-of-the-art 3D audio system and 3D-HD imagery, projected onto the world’s longest and most expansive 360-degree screen. Spanning nearly 400 feet in length to encircle Studio Tour guests within a newly constructed 65,000-square-foot structure on the legendary backlot, the sprawling custom-built screen will employ 34, 4K projectors and a sophisticated projection configuration system to fully envelope guests in unprecedented realism.”
Such an attraction will likely top the wildly popular Kong animation on the Studio Tour, which features a smaller 3D screen and show building but a similar 360-screen and motion-platform concept. Furthermore, unlike Kong, the new tour animation will feature multiple sections, combining practical props from the film, front projection and other effects to simulate speeds in excess of 120 miles her hour.
Fast & Furious: Supercharged will debut this summer on the Studio Tour, and will feature the returning cast of Michelle Rodriguez, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Luke Evans and Tyrese Gibson guiding guests through the streets of Los Angeles.
