February 8, 2014 – Hello everyone. It’s that time of month again – that time of month where we take a look at what’s happening at Universal Studios Hollywood. As with our previous update, we’ll be taking a look at Simpsons Plaza, the future site of the Wizarding World, Studio Tour activity and more! Ain’t that exciting? Because I got to tell you… I have a fever, and the only prescription…is more cowbe…er…photos. Yeah, photos.
Anyway, let’s get started.
» Parking Lot
» The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
» The Studio Tour
» Simpsons Plaza
» Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem / Super Silly Fun Land
Of course, before we get started, this wouldn’t be a proper Inside Universal photo update if we didn’t take a look at the current status of Universal’s parking situation.
It’s pretty exciting stuff as you would soon see.
Here we have a parking lot in its natural habitat…
…the dirt…the bins…it’s just so serene.
Moving on, let’s take a look at the current site of Wizarding World. There’s not much to report unless you’re a truck, dirt, concrete or steel enthusiast.
But, if you are a truck, dirt, concrete or steel enthusiast, boy, you’re going to love this.
Before we jump right in, here’s an exterior shot of WaterWorld and the Wizarding World of Really Tall Cranes.
If you focus your gaze on the upper third of this photo, you’ll see that construction crews have already begun pouring concrete rows.
More concrete rows…
…and more concrete…rows.
Heading over to the backlot, it seems like there’s a curious project going on at the former site of the Mummy’s Tomb. Here’s hoping they’re building an attraction centered upon Christopher Walken – complete with fire, 3D and water effects. I’m thinking a combination of WaterWorld, Revenge of the Mummy and Universal’s Animal Actors if you catch my drift…
Oh, and before I forget – Bruce says hi!
“Hi mom!”
Next stop: the Simpsons Ride! Construction in and around the plaza seems to be progressing at a healthy pace. No word on when the food court will open, but I’m willing to bet it’s not opening anytime soon.
Carnival games, however, seem to be a different story.
Carnival games…
From above, overlooking the StarWay.
Is that a throwy-in-the-hole-esque game underneath the tent?
Overlooking the left hand side of the entrance…
…and now the right…wait a minute. You notice something?
Damn it, Bart! You and your crazy shenanigans.
Finally, with the opening date of Despicable Me fast approaching, Universal has begun adding some finishing touches to the ride.
Super Silly Fun Land, however, seems to be lagging ever-so-slightly behind its next door neighbor. Nothing too major, mind you, that could possibly jeopardize the April 10th opening. But I think there’s a strong possibility that we might see soft openings for the ride before we step foot into the actual land.
Fluffy unicorns for the spinner.
That does it for us! Be sure to stay with Inside Universal for continuing coverage of these projects and more originating from Universal Studios Hollywood. Thanks for reading, and be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!
