August 27, 2013 – As Halloween Horror Nights approaches, Inside Universal was fortunate enough to attend this year’s preview event. Characters from Evil Dead, Insidious, Black Sabbath and The Walking Dead were on display as make-up artists, costume designers and artisans demonstrated techniques used to bring the massive Halloween event to life.
We’ve included photos and a video of the event below. Halloween Horror Nights begins on Friday, September 20 and runs on select nights through November 2, 2013.
…and we’re back!
John Murdy – Halloween Horror Night Hollywood’s creative director – gives a brief synopsis of this year’s roster.
First on the list: “War Pig” from Black Sabbath 13 3D.
Make-up for The Walking Dead.
Amazing to think that this level of make-up needs to be applied on a large scale.
Next up: costumes from The Purge.
Wardrobe from Insidious.
My personal favorite: Evil Dead.
A sneak preview of Universal Monsters Remix: Resurrection.
Universal also offered “victims” the opportunity to receive some light horror make-up.
Some of the scalps and skin grafts used for this year’s event.
Hey look, it’s Fluffy!
My personal favorite: Lunatic Ravings. Mockups and renderings are produced here using a large touch-screen monitor connected to a special digitizer pen.
Amazing artwork. Think of this setup as a large, extremely powerful iPad.
Oh, look. It’s Chucky! Scary little doll.
“Costume for the Killer Klowns” scare zone.
Hmm…this reminds me of someone.
“Lucifer” from Black Sabbath 13 3D.
El Cucuy.
…and that’s a wrap!
Special thanks goes out to Universal Studios Hollywood for inviting us to this year’s special preview event. We’ll have a park update in the coming days, but for now, thanks for reading!
