Interesting article, but this snipped popped out -
Quote:Terminator 2: 3-D has been subject of speculation that it will be replaced for a number of years, having debuted in May 1999. Rumors have already surfaced that a 4-D movie based on James Cameron's Avatar could be set to replace it, with Cameron having directed Terminator 3-D as well.

You know, if there's one movie that could replace Terminator - it's Avatar. But how would they plan it out?
this exactly what I was saying avatar would replace T2. james cameron for another james cameron movie.
Eh...I was kind of hoping they would replace it with something better like with the Matrix Trilogy. I guess Avatar would be the most reasonable choice since it's now the highest-grossing film ever and it's also done by James Cameron. According to Screamscape, the rumors point out that they want to open this rumored attraction around 2014 when the next two installments come out in 2014 and 15. If that's the case, then they're jumping the gun here. A lot of people I know thought the movie was visually stunning, but nothing more than that. The script and the story to me just felt kind of weak. I wonder what Universal will do if, by some wild chance, the films bomb?
Another thing that concerns me just slightly is if they mix the 3D with the live action very well. I'm sure Universal can pull it off, but I just hope that they actually involve a bit more live-action stunts to help amp up the "cool factor".
I think people think about Avatar too much. Those who criticize that it doesn't have an 'original plot' are kidding themselves. The movie industry has been rehashing story lines for years, and other movies are no different. Very few movies these days have a truly original plot that hasn't been done in some way or another in the past.

:) Funny how you mentioned that. I think WaterWorld proves that we can have an excellent attraction based of a 'box office bomb'.
Avatar was nothing more that a Visually expolsive movie. Yes the plot was crappy but the graphics did bring me to tears when I first saw the movie (like with King Kong 360 3D). I believe this is the best Universal can do to replace T2. Lets hope WETA and Universal pull off something Explosive. Hope the change the whole lay up. I would love to see an entire room evolopted by screens with swirling chairs, with some live action. What would u guys want to see happen if Avatar is chosen?
I'd take T2 over Avatar any day.
I think it would be cool if they actually used a 180 degree screen for the third-person shots. That way, you can literally be engrossed in the 3D world of Pandora with all of the explosions and arrow-flying.
Avatar definitely has the potential. When you think of it, Terminator 2:3D was created during the mid 90s. Even by today's standards, it holds up very well.
Imagine what Cameron could do with today's current technology...makes you wonder.
...and I'm not talking about Shrek 4D either. Despite being fun, it's simply not very innovative beyond the moving chairs. Terminator 2 was groundbreaking.
